Dear WinEdt-ers,

WinEdt 9.0 has been officially released today.

If you are using (in WinEdt 8.2) one of the following contributions
from winedt.org:

- Acronym
- ANSI2UTF8
- arara
- Asymptote
- ConTeXt standalone
- DocZoom
- Figures&Tables
- LaTeX3
- LaTeXify
- MetaPreview
- Nomenclature
- VerbatimPlus
- YandY TeX
- To Do
- bibMacros
- FasTeX
- MathGreek
- PostScript
- R-Sweave
- Stata

you can quietly import your WinEdt 8 settings (the so called
Migration process) through the corresponding command available in
Options -> Maintenance menu.

After you perform the Migration process, please follow the
following instructions if you want your packages to work fine in
WinEdt 9. All version for WinEdt 9 are available already at
winedt.org.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are migrating from WinEdt 8.2, you don't have to do anything
in regards of the following packages:

- Acronym
- ANSI2UTF8
- ConTeXt standalone
- VerbatimPlus
- YandY TeX
- To Do
- bibMacros
- FasTeX
- MathGreek
- PostScript

Instead, for the following, the new versions for WinEdt 9 must be
installed over the old ones (in WinEdt 9):

- Figures&Tables
- LaTeX3
- R-Sweave
- Stata

Regarding the following, you have to uninstall them through the
macros available in %b\Uninstall\<package>\Uninstall.edt (in WinEdt
9) and then install the new version for WinEdt 9:

- arara
- Asymptote
- DocZoom
- LaTeXify
- MetaPreview
- Nomenclature

---------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are migrating from a version prior to WinEdt 8.2, the above
rules apply, except for the following packages:

- DocZoom
- VerbatimPlus
- YandY TeX
- To Do

In regards of 'DocZoom', follow this procedure:

1 - Install (in WinEdt 9) the version for WinEdt 8.2.
2 - Uninstall it through the macro Uninstall.edt available in
%b\Uninstall\DocZoom.
3 - Install the version for WinEdt 9.

In regards of 'YandY TeX', you will have to uninstall it in WinEdt
8 before performing the Migration process and install the new
version in WinEdt 9.

Finally, regarding 'VerbatimPlus' and 'To Do', the new versions for
WinEdt 9 must be installed over the old ones (in WinEdt 9).

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Best regards to all and enjoy WinEdt 9!

Hi Alex and Karl,

many thanks for the new version and the approach, to make any update as
easy as possible.

Nevertheless, I think it's better to ask for clarification before doing
something wrong.

I have not used the standard program folder for my WinEdt-installation,
but installed WinEdtTeam\WinEdt 8 on a separate partition. The settings
are inside that folder (WinEdtTeam\WinEdt 8\Local). And it works fine ...

The last updates were really simple: I installed the latest version over
the old one, did "Upgrade personal configuration" and that it was (in
general).

Now, "http://www.winedt.com/installing.html" says: "You should not
attempt to install WinEdt 9 over the existing WinEdt 8, 7, 6 or 5 on
your system!"

Therefore, my upgrading should look like:
1. Deleting those of the contributions from winedt.org out of my
8.2-installation, you, Karl, have mentioned above.

2. Installing WinEdt 9 in a separate folder.

3. Copying the local-folder from WinEdtTeam\WinEdt 8.

4. Upgrade personal configuration.

5. Re-installing the contributions from winedt.org

Is that okay or have I missed something important?

Many thanks in advance and best regards,
Ralf

Ralf,

simply install WinEdt 9 in a different folder (e.g. WinEdtTeam\WinEdt 9
on the same partition) and place the local folder wherever you want
(e.g. WinEdtTeam\WinEdt 9\Local).

At this point, 'Options' -> 'Maintenance' -> 'Import WinEdt 8 Settings'
is the right way to go.

Then follow the instructions in my previous email.

Hope I've been clear enough. If you encounter any problem, feel free to
write me privately.

Best regards,

Karl

Hi all,

Actually, for my installation, I didn't even have to create a Local
folder in %b: it was automatica.lly copied with its contents from WinEdt
8.2 %b\Local.

Karl,

thanks again - everything worked as expected. I had some Warnings when I
imported my old settings (for example because of a changed right
margin), but nothing serious.

But since the previous versions the one thing I was not able to change
up to now is the standard routine for erasing the output files. I
modified "Erase Working Files.edt" to "RH Erase Working Files.edt", so
that I can delete some more types of files when they exist.

The structure is like

----
ClearFileItems;

// AddFileItem(0,"BAK Files","*.bak","");
IfFileExists("*.bak",'AddFileItem(0,"all BAK Files","*.bak","");');
IfFileExists("%N%T.bak",'AddFileItem(0,"Main BAK
File","%N%T.bak","TeX");');
IfFileExists("%N*.bak",'AddFileItem(0,"Main-BAKs
(all)","%N*.bak","TeX");');

// AddFileItem(0,"DVI File","%N.dvi","TeX");
IfFileExists("%N.dvi",'AddFileItem(0,"DVI File","%N.dvi","TeX");');
// AddFileItem(0,"PDF File","%N.pdf","TeX");
IfFileExists("%N.pdf",'AddFileItem(0,"PDF File","%N.pdf","TeX");');
// AddFileItem(0,"PS File","%N.ps","TeX");
IfFileExists("%N.ps",'AddFileItem(0,"PS File","%N.ps","TeX");');
// AddFileItem(0,"synctex File","%N.synctex","synctex");
IfFileExists("%N.synctex",'AddFileItem(0,"synctex
File","%N.synctex","TeX");');
// IfFileExists("%N.synctex",'AddFileItem(0,"synctex
File","%N.synctex.gz","TeX");');

// AddFileItem(1,"LOG Files","%N.log","");
IfFileExists("%N.log",'AddFileItem(1,"LOG Files","%N.log","");');

// AddFileItem(1,"SAV Files","*.sav","");
IfFileExists("*.sav",'AddFileItem(1,"SAV Files","*.sav","");');
// AddFileItem(1,"TEMP Files","_temp.*","");
IfFileExists("*_temp.*",'AddFileItem(1,"TEMP Files","*_temp.*","");');
// AddFileItem(1,"TMP Files","*.tmp","");
IfFileExists("*.tmp",'AddFileItem(1,"TMP Files","*.tmp","");');

// ... and so on

EraseWorkingFiles("%P;%O","Erase Output Files",0,0);

End;
---

I extended MainMenu.ini to

---
MENU="&Tools"
CAPTION="&Tools"
ITEM="Erase_Output_Files_RH"
CAPTION="Erase Output Files &RH ..."
IMAGE="Recycle"
MACRO="Exe('%b\Exec\RH Erase Working Files.edt');"
REQ_DOCUMENT=1
ITEM="Erase_Output_Files"
CAPTION="Erase &Output Files ..."
IMAGE="Recycle"
MACRO="Exe('%b\Exec\Erase Working Files.edt');"
REQ_DOCUMENT=1
---

and Toolbar.ini to
---
BUTTON="Erase_Output_Files"
TYPE=6
MENU="Erase_Output_Files_RH"
MENU="-"
MENU="Erase_Output_Files"
MENU="-"
MENU="$Erase_AUX_File"
---

So I can chose in the Menu and via the arrow right beneath the trash can
icon whether to erase some files with the original or via the
manipulated macro. But the highlighted entry is that of the original
macro at the second position...

How can I change the standard behaviour of a click on the icon in that
way, that my modified erasing macro is called?

That is one of the menu and toolbar tricks I have not really understood yet.

Have a nice weekend and best regards
Ralf

I changed back to the former setting, as WinEdt sometimes did not
recognize the "RH Erase Working Files.edt" file and only offers to
delete bak-files, although there were the usual LaTeX files (aux, log,
and so on). The first structure always works, but I have to select the
erasing macro manually.

It would be helpful if this could go somewhere reasonably prominent on the winedt.org site. (If it's already there, it wasn't prominent enough for me to notice it.)

Murray,

On winedt.org you will find only the packages and the instructions on
how to install and uninstall them.

The Migration process is independent of the packages you have installed,
and that's why I wrote that email to the list.

You have no idea of all the work I've made for this version, and how
much time I've spent testing how to make the Migration process as easier
as possible.

So, sometimes, someone could thank me instead of asking for things that
don't change your life :-)

Best regards and enjoy WinEdt 9!

The point of my suggestion was that, by having the information available on the web site, you'd in fact be spared future work of pointing folks to the archived mailing list.
