Zul and David,
Zul - I have exactly the same issue, so thank you for bringing attention to
it.
David - Thank you for the suggested solution, and I may implement it, even
though I am generally reluctant to mess with default settings, especially
using text files where I might make a mistake and then spend time fixing
something I have "broken". Also, I never know if my tailoring will have
unintended consequences, especially when it comes time to install a new
version of the editor or re-visit a project that had been set aside for a
long time. (I admit that I am not very good at keeping notes about such
matters, so I whenever such events happened in the past, I often spent time
re-inventing a "custom solution" to something I had figured out years
before and had long since forgotten about. This applies to many
applications and toolsets that I use, not just WinEdt!)
Alex - You know that I genuinely appreciate your efforts over the years --
has it been since the 1980's? And I know that you cannot respond to every
request. However, this is one you might think about, since use of toolbars
vs. keyboard shortcuts is a very individual matter and being able to tailor
the toolbars to ones' own work habits can greatly improve productivity.
And I expect that I am not your only user who would like to use the system
"just as it comes out of the box" -- I'd rather work on my documents than
spend time adjusting tools (which usually means keeping consistency between
my desktop and notebook), no matter how neat and cool the tools happen to
be. Also (and I suspect that I am not alone in this), I don't care to
spend time making the editor perfectly optimal for my use e.g., (I don't
care if there are buttons or options I never use) -- I just want to be able
to make a few adjustments that really affect my workflow.
If it is not feasible to provide an easy interface to tailoring the
toolbar, here are my thoughts, for whatever they are worth, on optimizing
the layout to keep the most frequently used buttons from getting lost when
the window narrows. (I have no idea what is easy or difficult for you to
implement.)
1) Perhaps there could be an easily-available (GUI) option to allow
toolbars to "wrap" when the main window is narrowed. Wrapping would have
the effect of consuming more vertical space, but that is a tradeoff that
users could easily make based on their preferences.
2) In the default layout, priority (that is, leftward positioning) could be
given to buttons that are likely to be used often in the course of document
preparation and editing, and to operations that are likely to be needed
when one is already using a mouse. For example, I am in the habit of using
the "F9" key to PDF-texify because I usually want to do that when I am
editing using the keyboard and that operation does not depend upon cursor
positioning. However, when I want to do a forward search, I have often
just positioned the cursor to a search point using the mouse, so it is
natural to to also use the mouse to tap a toolbar button. Also, in this
case, I will often want to use the mouse to control the PDF viewer, so it
makes even more sense for me to use the mouse to control forward as well as
reverse search.
Just my thoughts -- thanks, best regards, and keep up the good work!

Post by David CardonZul,
One option you could try would be to rearrange the order of items on the
toolbar so that the toolbar icons that you care about appear farther to the
left and never get covered up.
To do this, go to Options | Options Interface...
Under "Menus and Toolbar..." double-click on "Toolbar". The file
"Toolbar.ini" will open up in an editing window. After a few minute of
studying the file you will probably understand the syntax. Then edit the
file to move covered up items earlier so that they don't get covered up
when the WinEdt window occupies half the screen. Or if there are certain
icons you never use, you could comment them out in the configuration file.
You will need to click the "reload script" icon for the change to be
effective.

Post by Zulkifli HidayatDear Alex,
I am now using winedt 9 64 bit on windows 7. Since I am now using a wide
monitor, I can set windedt and pdfviewer windows side-by-side. However, I
find that some buttons of the (default) toolbar are hidden because the
smaller width of the winedt window. The only way to go to the hidden
buttons is only by widen the window again. Is it possible to have a button
that show the icons once they are hidden?
Thank you.
