Hi,

I found a few copy/paste posts here that weren't helpful. This is why
I'm sending this email with my experiments to fix WinEdt.

I have a strange problem. I can copy some text in WinEdt but cannot
paste it! Or more accurately, it pastes "" empty. So, If I was
selecting the word "challenge" and paste it over it, it disappears. I
tested it in other programs and the clipboard works outside WinEdt. I
can copy from WinEdt and can paste in Notepad. I can copy from Notepad
and cannot paste in WinEdt. The same happens from/to Excel.

I run WinEdt.exe -D with admin privilege and checked what was the
debug output when I try to paste and it is not informative:

Which "log" files do you mean? the one produced by WinEdt? The log didn't
exist when I first encountered the problem with paste. So I don't think it has
anything to do with it.

Do you per chance run any custom Clipboard enhancement software?

WinEdt 9 has now been released. All I could come up with was to add
two debug log lines in Paste function:

DebugWrite('Clipboard Data Size in Bytes:
'+IntToStr(GlobalSize(MemHandle)));
DebugWrite('Clipboard Unicode String Length: '+StrLen(Ptr));

It would be interesting to see what sizes are logged when you copy
a word in your clipboard and then try to paste it. I suspect that
somehow zero value is returned but I have no idea why that would be
the case on your computer unless you can provide some additional
clues.

Or maybe some software you are running uses up all clipboard allocation.

I fixed the problem. Sadly, it was from the WEBROOT antivirus protection. Part of their "Identity Protection", they clear "possible personal" clipboard information in certain applications. Winedt.exe was put as "Deny". Changing it to "allow" fixed the problem.

Thanks everyone with your help. I at least hope that others that face the same issue when installing default WEBROOT will find these posts useful.
