In my setting with my newly installed WinEdt8, the TEX file is not saved
automatically after editing and compilation. Can someone help me with where to
reestablish this feature?

In the Options Interface, open MainMenu.ini and go to
MENU="TeX_Menu"
(on my machine it's line 3481). For each item that correspondes to a
compiler, change, if necessary, SAVE_INPUT=0 to SAVE_INPUT=1.

Of course this is the default setting for ALL Tex Compilers
included in default settings. In other words, this "feature" does
not need to be reestablish because it is there in defaults and
nothing needs to be modified.

It is possible that you mean something else. In that case describe
exactly what happens to make you believe that modified TeX files
are not saved before (what) TeX compilation.

If you are for the first time using Windows 7 or 8 beware that you
may no longer be allowed to place you files in protected folders
(like Program Files) which might have worked for you on XP... But
this has nothing to do with WinEdt or TeX...

Unless you provide some clues it is unlikely that you will receive
any further help.
